Rockwood Dog Training

Rockwood Dog Training is based in Caerphilly, South Wales. The training centre is located at the base of a beautiful mountain valley and although set in lush welsh countryside is just minutes from the centre of Cardiff. It has good access off Blackbrook Road with a car parking area. The training takes place indoors with a purpose built three span Polly tunnel with astro turf floor which provides a large and ample area protected from the weather. At one end we have a tiered viewing gallery, which seats seventy people. It is used for talks, seminars and for members of the family to watch their dog working during class. At the other end we have two private consultation rooms and a photo room which is used for the registration of dogs for filming.  We also have a one acre fenced off area for outdoor training during the summer months.'' Rockwood Dog Display Team

There are Sixteen personnel in the team, all are sponsored by volunteers who give up a great deal of time to travel around Great Britain at nearly 40 shows through the summer with their dogs. The dogs are all family pets and live within the home. Many of the dogs working with the team have been rescued from bad homes and come in all shapes and sizes. The handlers all attend Martins Dog Training Centre in Caerphilly and have developed a wealth of knowledge and experience. The main aim of the team is to educate the public in the responsibilities of owning a dog and to provide a varied and entertaining program to suit members of the public from all walks of life. Some of the dog's within the team perform spectacular stunt's like Tight Rope Walking, Fire Retrieving, Hoop Jumping and a unique Backwards Recall which needs to be seen to be believed.

Many of the shows that we attend are responsible for raising money for various charities. In 1990 we performed at a show in Windsor Castle and helped raise £20,000 for Great Ormand Street Hospital. With a lot of help from dog owners and schools in our local area, in April 1994 we took eight tones of medical aid to a Rijeka Children's Hospital, Croatia in our display team coach.

Rockwood Animals On Film

Since 1990 Rockwood Animals have built up a sound name for the supply of quality  animals within the industry. Training and supplying animals and professional handlers at the same time priding ourselves with the quality of service we provide.

We have supplied many different animals from cockroaches to tigers and pride ourselves with the quality of animals and trainers that we work with. All the animals are trained using "positive reinforcement" and the animals care, well-being and the safety of the crew are of paramount during filming. Martin has worked with some of Britain's top actors "James Coburn", "Peter O' Toole", "Edward Woodward", "Sir Anthony Hopkins", "Kenneth Brenner" and "Alan Bates".

As well as Our Animals working within the film industry Martin and his wife Ellen have made many personal appearances on national TV including, "That's Life", "The Wogan Show" , "TFI Friday","The Generation Game", "Animal Road Show", "Pets Rescue Road Show", "This Morning", "Rolf's Amazing Animals" and "Kilroy"
